ACCEPLAN: 25 YEARS IN A NUTSHELL

Our company’s story started at university in 1996, where a group of researchers and professionals started to introduce studies on accessibility from a multisectoral perspective: economics, architecture, urbanism, urban sociology…. Research and consultancy demands from the public administration came as a consequence of being the first group of this kind in Spain and our proved capacity to develop instruments and activities for the promotion of Universal Accessibility (UA) throughout the country. Acceplan developed an intense activity of field works, surveys and statistical analysis for the support and design of strategic planning and state regulations on UA. Involving users through participatory processes was also part of this process.

During the first decade of SXXI we worked closely to Spanish public administration and also introduced applied research in other areas closed to UA, such as housing functional adaptation, inclusive urban regeneration or ageing in place. Our training activity for specialists and managers in different sectors arose from the implementation needs of the new regulations and instruments drafted, while the organization of large events and conferences contributed to widen dissemination and the impact of capacity building.

After becoming a private company in 2013, the international consulting activity came as logical consequence of all innovation and experience put together in previous years and the need to open to new world regions. By working together with international funding agencies, we have been transferring knowledge to areas of the world where development in UA is emerging. Our research and legal drafting experience is a solid foundation for our activities, always under a very practical view of what is most effective to the needs of the final beneficiaries and projects.

Acceplan Accesibilidad SL is the consequence of this evolutionary process along 25 years to become a reference company in research and consultancy about UA, housing adaptation, urban regeneration and inclusive mobility.
